We recommend that the associate director of the Office of Health Services clarify the regional medical officers’ roles and responsibilities regarding the oversight and supervision of Peace Corps medical officers.

We recommend that the associate director of the Office of Health Services develop and provide guidance on the transfer of care between Peace Corps Medical Officers, TDY providers, and backup providers to facilitate continuity of care for Volunteers.

We recommend that the associate director of the Office of Health Services determine appropriate indicators—in addition to Volunteer satisfaction data obtained through the annual Volunteer survey—of the quality of Volunteer medical and mental health services and incorporate them into future strategic plans.

We recommend that the Director analyze, prioritize and plan for the resources necessary to measure and track the identified indicators of the quality of Volunteer medical and health services.

We recommend that the associate director of the Office of Global Operations and the associate director of the Office of Health Services explore new ways to raise Volunteer and trainee awareness of the Quality Nurse line.
