Joaquin Ferrao is serving as the Acting Inspector General for the for the Peace Corps Office of Inspector General (OIG). Since May of 2009, Mr. Ferrao has been the Deputy Inspector General and Legal Counsel. He is responsible for the overall management of OIG audits, evaluations, and investigations of the Peace Corps programs and operations. Mr. Ferrao also serves as the Chair of the CIGIE Legislation Committee.

Before working with the Peace Corps, Mr. Ferrao was Senior Policy Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of State where he advised the Under Secretary on human rights, democracy promotion, and governance issues. Prior to this, Mr. Ferrao served in the Bureau for Western Hemisphere Affairs, first as the Deputy Political Counselor for the U.S. Mission to the Organization of American States and then as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs. From 1998-2002, Mr. Ferrao served at USAID, initially as Attorney Advisor with the Office of Inspector General and later as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel.

Mr. Ferrao received his J.D., with honors, in 1997 from the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law. He earned a B.A. degree from Florida International University, graduating cum laude and majoring in International Relations. He is currently a member of the Washington, D.C., Florida, and U.S. Supreme Court Bars.
